Africa-Press – Angola. Angola is in group C of the COSAFA Cup in football, with Namibia, Lesotho and the Seychelles Islands, according to the draw held this Friday, in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The 23rd edition of the event, to be held from the 26th of this month to the seventh of next month, in the city of Durban, South Africa, will also have the participation of the host country, Mozambique, Eswatini, Botswana (group A) and Zambia , Comoros Islands, Zimbabwe and another to be determined (B), for a total of 12 selections.
The three winners of each series and the best runner-up qualify for the semi-finals.
For this endeavor, coach Pedro Gonçalves called up 16 players who play in the diaspora, unlike previous calls, in which Angola was represented with more players from the National Championship of the first Division (Girabola).
The squad includes goalkeepers Edmilson Cambila (Estrela de Amadora, Portugal), Landu Langanga (Sagrada Esperança) and Francisco Mangala “Gelson” (Interclube).
The defenders are Mindinho (Interclube), Khaly (Dila, Georgia), Joel Kiala (Hertha Berlin, Germany), Marsoni Sambu (Molembeek, Belgium), Pedro Bondo (Sporting de Portugal), Rui Modesto (AIK Stockholm, Sweden) and Sandro Cruz (Chaves, Portugal).
Maestro (Adana Demispor, Turkey), Domingos Andrade (Felgueiras, Portugal), Joseph Nduquidi (Metz, France), Keliano (Estrela de Amadora), Maya (Petro de Luanda) and Pedro Agostinho (Desportivo da Lunda-Sul) are the midfielders.
The forwards Berna (Boavista, Portugal), Picas (Feirense, Portugal), Depú (Gil Vicente, Portugal), Ben Arfa (Kabuscorp do Palanca), Pedro Muteba (1860 Munchen, Germany) and Miro (Gil Vicente, Portugal) are also included from the list.
In the 2023 edition, in South Africa, Angola remained in the group stage, occupying second place, with four (4) points.
Zambia is the holder of the trophy.
