Africa-Press – Angola. The National Tennis Team makes its debut, this Wednesday, against Algeria, in a game of the Africa Davis Cup Group IV, which will be played until Sunday, on the fields of the Academy of Kikuxi Villas Club (KVC), in the municipality of Viana, in Luanda.

According to the draw, held (Tuesday), on the unprecedented stage of the world competition, Angola’s players will meet, in Group A, also with Senegal, on the 20th, and with Cameroon, on the 21st.

Held for the first time in the country, the well-known World Championship, aimed at Region IV of Africa, will involve 32 tennis players from eight countries, namely hosts Angola, Algeria, Burundi, Cameroon, Kenya, DR Congo, Rwanda and Senegal.

The opening ceremony will be performed by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Rui Falcão, followed by the opening game at 10 am.

Disputed over three series, in an all-against-all system, the race promotes the first two classified to Group III, with the last two relegated to Group V.

Angola debuted at this event in 2001 and to date its best record occurred in the 2003 edition, where it came in seventh place.

The country’s last participation was in 2021, in Brazzaville, Congo.

The Davis Cup is the World Tennis Championship for men’s national teams, part of the calendar of the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

For the Luanda event, the National Team is made up of tennis players Chris Lukano André, Fernando André, Daniel Domingos, Félix André and Emerson Pedro, captained by Nelson Almeida.
