Africa-Press – Angola. Angola expects a substantial increase in the volume of revenue from gold production this year, after having obtained an accumulated 3,674 ounces (one ounce is equivalent to 0.028349 kilograms) from 2018 to 2021, corresponding to an annual average of 918 .5 ounces fine.
The data, released by the director of the Studies, Planning and Statistics Office (GEPE) of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Maria José Isaías, point to the Chipindo, Samboto, Chicuamone, Chupumbula and Mpopo projects (Huila), Buco Zau, (Cabinda) and the Mapele Mining Project (Huambo) as the main prospecting and production areas.
According to statistics, the results in 2018 were null, when it was predicted to obtain 4,719 ounces of gold. In 2019, 750 ounces were extracted, compared to the planned 8,980, with 8.35 percent of program execution.
In 2020, the result rose to 1,887 ounces, despite the prospect of reaching 5,441 ounces, with 34.70% of execution, while in 2021, 1,137 ounces were extracted from the 7,500 projected, representing an execution of 13, 82 percent of the program.
Among the critical factors, we highlight the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the drop in production at the Chipindo Project, motivated by technical problems that forced the stoppage for a few months, as well as the forced stoppage of Gandavira Samboto, due to related disturbances with mining.
Ornamental Rocks
The difficulties in transporting ores due to poor conditions on the access roads, lack of equipment and high operating costs inherent to the production of electricity and compressed air are the main obstacles to the production of ornamental stones, with a total production of 253.55 thousand cubic meters in the last four years, an average of 63.39 thousand cubic meters per year.
In 2018, according to MIREMPET data, 50,900 cubic meters of ornamental stones were produced, having decreased to 44,830 cubic meters in 2019. Production rose again in 2020, with 71,690 cubic meters, counting 86,124 meters cubic in 2021.
