The first Micro-diamond Laboratory in Angola, belonging to ENDIAMA (Public Company dedicated to prospecting, reconnaissance, exploration, cutting and marketing of diamonds), was inaugurated this Monday, in Saurimo, Lunda-Sul province, by the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, in the presence of the provincial governor, Daniel Neto, and guests.
Built in the Terra-Nova district of the city of Saurimo, in an area of more than 1,200 square meters, the building includes, among others, the areas of petrography, weighing, magnetic/electromagnetic separation, micrology, control, physical preparation of samples, and scanning microscope.
The building guarantees direct employment to 15 local young people, with training in Mining at the Instituto Superior Politécnico (ISP), assigned to the Lueji A’Konde University, in Saurimo. In a brief explanation of how the laboratory works, the consultant to the chairman of the Board of Directors (PCA) of the Geological Institute, Silva Ginga, said that more than 20 state-of-the-art equipment was installed at the site, to allow for analysis or research and prospecting. of diamonds.
Minister Diamantino Azevedo said that for the development of the Mineral Resources sector, in addition to the geological potential, “good training and technical-scientific support infrastructures are necessary for the great success of the mining industry”.
He assured that, in the current term, the Ministry he directs managed to complete the building and central laboratories of the Geological Institute in Luanda and Huíla, within the scope of PLANAGEO, in addition to the implementation of the Ornamental Stone Valorization Center.
“With these projects, we have sufficient and quality infrastructure to guarantee technical and scientific support to mining companies and academic institutions, among others that need information to develop their activities”, guaranteed the minister.
He appealed to mining companies and some interested parties to use the available infrastructure, which allows for the planning of all the country’s economic activity and the improvement of the population’s quality of life.
For ENDIAMA’s CEO, Ganga Júnior, made it known that the installation of the Laboratory in Lunda-Sul results from a need that the sector has experienced in recent times, in the field of diamond research, which allowed the creation of a team composed of Angolans , for project design in South Africa and Russia.
Delighted with the infrastructure, the governor of Lunda-Sul, Daniel Neto, noted that the province marks an important step in the regional development process and guarantees an effective service environment. In due course, he praised the attention given by the Ministry, in relation to the implementation of projects in favor of Lunda-Sul, a province that continues to increase its “visit poster”, in the field of tourism.
Geological Institute
Also, yesterday, minister Diamantino Azevedo cut the inaugural ribbon, in Saurimo, of the Geological Institute of Angola (IGO), consisting of four modules, such as physical sample preparation, chemical analysis, identification of mineral rocks and water.
The IGO consultant, Silva Ginga, indicated that the building was equipped with modern equipment and presents characteristics that guarantee high levels of precision and accuracy of results. He stressed that the enterprise was built in an area of 3,660 square meters.
