Africa-Press – Angola. Dozens of books by Angolan writers are part of the volume of literary works from 35 countries participating in the 30th edition of the Havana Book Fair, which runs until Saturday at the San Carlos de la Cabaña Fortress, in the Cuban capital.
In this 30th edition, opened on the 20th of this month, 300 guests participate, in what is the biggest literary activity in Cuban territory. This year, Mexico is the guest of honor. At the opening ceremony, the fair was attended by the President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz Canel Bermúdez, and also by the Angolan ambassador to Cuba, Maria Cândida Teixeira.
In addition to the President of Cuba, the opening ceremony was marked by the presence of other prominent figures, such as the president of the National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba, Esteban Lazo, the Cuban Minister of Culture, Alpidio Alonso, and the Secretary of Culture of Mexico, Alejandra Frausto Guerrero, representing the country of honor.
This year, books by national authors, in the novel, short story, poetry, essay and anthology genre, as well as miniature paintings and handicrafts, were featured in the Angola pavilion, at one of the most important book fairs in the world.
The writer and director of the National Institute of Cultural Industries (INIC), Domingas Monte, and the director of the National Library, Diana Afonso, witnessed the opening ceremony of the fair.
Domingas Monte took advantage of the occasion to present her book for children and young people, “O sapo azul”. In addition to participating in the fair, the director of INIC visited several Cuban institutions and met with their directors, in order to reinforce and reactivate cultural exchange and cooperation between Angola and Cuba.
The organization decided that, in May of this year, the fair will travel, on an itinerant basis, to all the provinces of Cuba, during the National Festival of Culture.
In 2013, Angola was the guest country of honor at the 22nd edition of the Havana Book Fair, an invitation that took more than 100 Angolans to Cuba, including writers, artists from various disciplines, cultural agents, art critics and journalists.
