Africa-Press – Angola. Most of the 200 million sexual abuse of adolescents, recorded annually by the World Health Organization (WHO), occurs in the online environment, revealed, Thursday (28), in Luanda, the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Information Technologies.

Mário da Silva Oliveira, who was speaking at the opening of the seminar on “Access and Security”, said that, because of this, the Executive has been increasingly appealing to the need for the correct and responsible use of the Internet.

The Secretary of State said that it is important for young people to be able to distinguish and interpret how useful the use of the Internet is in their personal and professional lives and to refrain from sharing personal and other information that jeopardizes human dignity. .

Mário da Silva Oliveira used statistics from the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) from 2018 to reveal that there was a 32 percent increase in sites with inappropriate sexual material, involving young people, adolescents and children, with 39% of these victims being under the age of ten years, 55% were aged between 11 and 13 years, and another 5% were between 14 and 15 years.

He stressed that many children have also suffered cyber bullying, a situation that the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) defines as the use of electronic messages to harass, threaten or comply with another person.

The Secretary of State pointed out that, in some cases, explicit photos and rumors about the sex lives of young people end up being shared without their permission, adding that many of these situations end up the victim to commit suicide.
