Africa-Press – Angola. Igor Silva “Chumbo” expressed satisfaction at the fact that his father, Alberto Silva “Pepino”, was being honoured for the second time in the Tour of Angola by bicycle, an international event, the second stage of which was held on Friday, on the Moçâmedes-Lubango route.

The cyclist from Jair Transportes (JAT) says that being Pepino’s son brings responsibilities, but is a reason for joy, as it serves as an extra incentive to compete and motivate others to practice cycling.

“Being present at the race has a special meaning. Being among so many cyclists paying tribute to the great figure, my father, is satisfying. Participating is a victory, not only for me, but for all of Alberto Silva’s descendants.”

The winner of the first edition of the Tour of Angola, 2015, also expressed his desire to compete in future editions, even if his age is unfavorable.

Last year, Igor Silva competed alongside his brother, Walter Silva. For professional reasons, Walter will miss this year’s edition, but he will provide technical support to Jair Transportes.

According to Chumbo, the creation of the team, Escola Pepino, present in the race for the second time, is a way of honoring the memory of the father, because the race is a celebration and the priority is not triumph.

“I don’t have to win because it’s a tribute to my father. For me, the most important thing is to be physically fit, with a cohesive team. There are many challenges throughout the Tour and injuries or falls can occur. Participation in itself is already an achievement.”
