Afdb has Nearly one Billion Dollars Available for Angola

Africa-Press – Angola. The African Development Bank currently has close to one billion dollars available to finance various projects in Angola.According to economist Joel Daniel Muzima, who heads a team from the institution, which is working this week in Luanda, of the total of 3.2 billion dollars approved, Angola is only using 1.3 billion.

Joel Daniel Muzima discussed these indicators with journalists, at a forum to present career opportunities at the AfDB, an event held in partnership with the Ministry of Planning.

The active projects underway are in the order of US$1.3 billion in the agricultural sector. The value chain projects in Cabinda with budget support for the agricultural sector aim to reinforce reforms in the fertilizer policy and other initiatives in the energy area, in a transmission line of about 374 kilometers, with a power of 400KV that connects the province of Huambo to Huíla (Lubango).

The institution also has a project in the area of ​​water and sanitation with greater intervention in the region of Cuanza-Sul (Sumbe) and Benguela, which also covers seven coastal areas of Angola.

The “chief economist” of the mission to Luanda also highlighted projects in the areas of innovation, science and technology, with particular emphasis on the Technology Center under construction at the former Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, a project budgeted at 90 million dollars. In addition to the center, this initiative also includes granting scholarships to more than 1,250 girls from vulnerable families, as well as for graduates at masters and doctorate levels.

Joel Muzima reported that the AfDB has a project in its pipeline aimed at budget support, where the first phase focuses on reforming public finances. For this purpose, an amount of 160 million dollars is currently being prepared, which could be approved by the end of the year, and the second phase of the same amount should be approved in 2025.

As part of the internationalization of Angolan professionals in the Economic and Financial Sciences sector, the Ministry of Planning embraced the AfDB initiative, which is already a practice in other countries.
