The Chief of Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), Army General Egídio de Sousa Santos, analyzed, in the Kingdom of Spain, with the military authorities, the current situation in the Gulf of Guinea, where the focus of the naval forces Angolans had an effective participation during a conference that addressed other topics of military interest such as the Armed Forces, their Structure and Organization, within the scope of maritime security.

During the conference, the possibility of supporting the construction of Avante-class ships for the Angolan Navy was also evaluated, which is important in the Gulf of Guinea region, due to geographic location and petroleum and fishing resources. The visit of Army General António Egídio de Sousa, within the scope of military cooperation between the two countries, focused on the exchange of experience in terms of military techniques and training of staff. During the four days of the FAA delegation’s stay in Spain, high-level contacts were developed between the military leaders with the aim of strengthening ties in specific matters related to the action of the Armed Forces, within the field of cooperation. The contacts were also oriented towards areas of interest such as the possibility of equipping the Angolan Armed Forces, including other topics of advantages in cooperation.

The Army Chief of Staff said that the visit to the Kingdom of Spain is synonymous with the political will of the President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Angolan Armed Forces, João Lourenço, which reflects the expression of good relations between the two countries. , indicates the press release this Sunday.

The FAA Chief of Staff, during his speech, also touched on the political, economic and social situation, as well as the security aspects of the country, mentioning that each “one characterizes the conjunctural events resulting from a year holding the fifth general elections”. On the occasion, Army General Egídio de Sousa Santos praised the invitation made by the Spanish authorities, in the person of Admiral General Teodoro López, Chief of the Defense Staff of the Kingdom of Spain, having reaffirmed the importance of the visit, during the which, the works allowed the strengthening of friendship and cooperation ties, in the areas of training and maritime safety.

On March 14, 2017, the complement to the General Agreement in the Defense Sector was signed in Spain, in which the areas of interest are part, Legislation for the Armed Forces, Arms Control and Disarmament, Defense Plans and Budget Management , Peace Support, Search and Rescue and Human Operations, Organization of the Armed Forces, Crisis Management and the Communication and Information System. The Angolan ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, José Luís de Matos, praised “the feats of the brave Angolan warriors that culminated in Angola’s independence”. The Angolan Armed Forces delegation included Vice Admiral Valentim António, 2nd Commander of the Angolan War Matinha, Lieutenant General Apolinário Gaspar, and other FAA officers.
