Angola Participates in the Kimberley Process Meeting in Dubai

Africa-Press – Angola. An Angolan delegation, composed of members of the Kimberley Process National Commission (CNPK), will participate in the Plenary Meeting of the Diamond Certification System, taking place from today until Friday, in the city of Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).At the meeting, the Angolan delegation is led by the executive coordinator of CNPK, Estanislau Buio, and includes senior staff from the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Endiama and Sodiam, according to a press release.

During the meeting, which also brings together representatives from Kimberley Process member countries, industry and civil society, participants will evaluate several proposals drafted by working groups and subgroups to the Ad-hoc Committee for the Review and Reform of the Diamond Certification System, at the Luanda meeting, held last October, in the Angolan capital.

The event will also allow for the discussion and evaluation of the reports of the Monitoring Working Groups, led by South Africa, Statistics (USA), Diamond Experts (World Diamond Council), Artisanal Alluvial Exploration (DRC), Rules and Procedures Committee (Russia) and Chairmanship and Participation Committee (Zimbabwe).

Still within the framework of the ongoing Review and Reform Ad-Hoc Committee, several administrative decisions may be adopted.

Angola is a co-founder and active participant in the main decisions of the Kimberley Process, created in 2003 with the aim of eliminating the trade in conflict diamonds.
