Africa-Press – Angola. The vice-president of the MPLA, Luísa Damião, praised the importance of replacing the statue of Queen Njinga Mbandi, in Largo do Kinaxixi, in Luanda, as it is the image of a figure that dignifies Angolans.
The party leader made the statements during the inauguration ceremony on Monday, having called on citizens to preserve and value Largo do Kinaxixi, highlighting the fact that the requalification of the place represents a source of pride for the people, from Cabinda to Cunene and from the Sea to the East, as well as tourists who visit the country.
“Our culture and history are present here, where we can have moments of leisure, with artists showcasing our cultural wealth”, emphasized Luísa Damião, referring to the venue leading down to the Hotel Trópico, recalling the poems of the Founder of the Angolan Nation, Agostinho Neto, as a man of culture.
According to the MPLA vice-president, the return of Njinga Mbandi’s image to Largo do Kinaxixi brings with it Angolan history and culture, to symbolize the 49 years since Angola wrote its name in the Concert of Nations, becoming a subject of Public International Law.
“These 49 years should take us back to three moments. The first is the inspiration of those fighters who fought so that we, today, could be free and independent. Therefore, we must honor the memory of these guerrillas,” he added.
For the administrator of the Ingombota Urban District, Paulo Furtado, Largo do Kinaxixi has been transformed into a “great postcard”, having requested everyone’s participation in the conservation of the infrastructure”, guaranteeing the provision of maintenance and support services to citizens.
The president of the Board of Directors of the Federation of Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland, Ludgério Pelinganga, stated that the reopening of Largo do Kinaxixi represents “a landmark of remembrance to reinforce knowledge of the country’s history”.
