Angola-Us Relations Remain Intact with Election of New President

Africa-Press – Angola. US State Department spokesperson Amanda Robertson assured on Wednesday in Rio de Janeiro that the cooperation relationship with different countries does not depend on the administrations.Speaking to Angolan journalists, following the meeting yesterday at the G20 headquarters between Presidents João Lourenço and Joe Biden, the US official clarified that there was no risk of the bilateral relationship between the countries falling apart with the change in leadership in the United States.

“The friendship and relations between the United States and Angola are deep and are growing ever deeper. We have many opportunities for private sector companies from both countries and the relationship does not depend on one administration or the other of the countries; it is a constant relationship that will continue to grow,” said Amanda Robertson.

The spokesperson also confirmed that preparations are ongoing for Joe Biden’s state visit to Angola in the first week of December, ensuring that the White House is finalizing the details of the trip.

“But I can say that this is a very important moment for the United States, because it will be the first time that an American President will visit Angola. It is a sign of the importance of Angola, an important partner for the United States,” he explained, ensuring that Angola and the United States are working together on many issues, namely security, democracy and prosperity on the African continent.

“For the United States, Angola is a very important partner on the African continent. We are working together on the Lobito Corridor project, which is a major investment for Angola and for African economies. It will connect the African continent for the first time,” noted the senior US State Department official.

“It represents an opportunity for Angola to use essential minerals, which are important for green energy, and also to create many jobs and improve the economy not only for the country, but for the entire African continent,” he added.

Joe Biden’s visit to Angola, he explained, despite taking place in the context of the end of his term in the White House, continues to be relevant, “because President Biden is working until the end of his term on his most important priorities”.

Amanda Robertson also said that the fact that the US President is continuing his visit “is a sign that Angola and Africa are a very important priority for Joe Biden”, also arguing that the conversation he had with President João Lourenço should be interpreted “as a sign of the importance of the bilateral relationship”.
