Africa-Press – Angola. The photovoltaic plant in the city of Cuito, capital of the province of Bié, with a capacity of 14.6 megawatts, is expected to come into operation in 2025, thus promoting the strengthening of the electrical system in this region and improving the distribution of electrical energy for family homes, the governor of Bié, Celeste Adolfo, said Friday in the city of Cuito.

Speaking at the end of season reetings ceremony, she revealed that the works on the Cuito photovoltaic plant are already completed.

Cuito, which has more than 29,500 consumers controlled by the National Electricity Distribution Company (ENDE), has already had energy from Laúca Hydroelectric Power Station since 2019, which allowed the installation of 80 megawatts (MW), when demand is only 20 MW.

On the other hand, the governor announced the start of work on the Chitembo and Cuemba photovoltaic plants, with work to demine the spaces already granted for the installation of the plants, which are underway in this first phase.

Celeste Adolfo reiterated also the beginning of the work related to the transport line from Laúca to the municipalities of Cunhinga, Andulo and Nharêa next year, after this month it will arrive in Chinguar, while, for the Eastern Corridor, the opening is awaited from the electrical substation in Catabola, to supply supplies to Camacupa.

Waters

In the field of water supply, Celeste Adolfo announced that the new capture, treatment and distribution system in the municipality of Chitembo, 150 kilometers south of Cuito, has been completed, which is expected to come into operation in 2025.

The works, resumed in 2021 and included in the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM), include the supply of more than a thousand household connections, as well as fountains to facilitate the drinking water consumption for local populations.

She also announced the start of construction of the new Andulo water system, as the previous one no longer meets demand, given that this region has more than 300,000 inhabitants.

Public works

The governor guaranteed the start, at the beginning of 2025, of the Facelift Project for the cities of Cuito and Cunje, approved by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, aiming to transfer greater dignity and increasingly improve its image.

According to the provincial governor, in the first phase, redevelopment work will begin in the Catemo, Catraio and Cambulucuto neighborhoods, on the outskirts of Cuito, as well as, in another case, the extension of the SME section to Caluapanda and Dom Nambi Avenue to Caluco.

In another vein, the resumption of works on national road no. 250, Cunje/Catabola/Camacupa/Cuemba, is always positive, with a view to accelerating the social and economic development of these municipalities, mainly in the movement of people and goods.

As for the PIIM, she said that is already completed 26 kilometers of road construction in the municipal headquarters of Cunhinga, Camacupa, Catabola, Cuemba and Chitembo, with the second phase also beginning in 2025, in which the earthmoving of the tertiary roads is also expected.

Furthermore, she added that government entities will distribute, next year, more than 5,000 lots for directed self-construction, where Cuito alone is expected to deliver 2,600 plots of land.

Education

In the education sector, the government intends to build more schools by 2027, especially in the interior of the province and increasingly improve the quality of education in this province.

It is also planned to hire new teachers through a public competition and strengthen the partnership with other civil society institutions to combat acts of vandalism of public assets and beyond.

Health

Celeste Adolfo informed that the biggest challenge regarding the health sector involves completing the works at the Bié General Hospital, which has been on hold for years, with a capacity of 300 beds, with a view to providing dignified care to patients coming from the interior.

It is also expected to reinforce prevention actions and increase more health units, to improve medical assistance for the population.

On the other hand, she urged the completion of works on the Cuquema prison, the Cuito municipal building, among other infrastructures.

The ceremony was attended by two deputy governors, members of the government, civil society and other individuals.
