Africa-Press – Angola. Four prisoners who were serving sentences at the Calomboloca Prison, located in the town of Cambembeia, in the province of Icolo e Bengo, were released Monday, under the presidential pardon decreed on 27 December.
These are national citizens Adolfo Campos, Gilson Moreira “Tanaice Neutro”, Hermenegildo André “Gildo das Ruas” and Abraão dos Santos “Pensador”, who saw their sentences pardoned by virtue of the pardon issued by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.
The pardoned individuals had been imprisoned since September 2023 for crimes of insult and insult to the President of the Republic.
The pardon, which took place as part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of National Independence, covered 51 prisoners, across the country’s 43 prisons.
On the occasion, the event’s spokesperson, Meneze Cassoma, said that this concluded the first phase of the presidential pardon in that prison complex.The prisoners who were pardoned demonstrated good conduct while serving their sentences, he said, calling on others to adopt good attitudes in prisons.
Speaking to the press, the pardoned Abraão dos Santos praised the initiative of the President of the Republic, considering freedom to be “a greater good” for any individual.
The release ceremony was witnessed by the prisoners’ families, the provincial director of the Luanda Prison Services, Suzeth Aguiar, and representatives of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR).
The Calomboloca prison, which has been in operation since 2013, in the province of Icolo e Bengo, controls a prison population of 1,236.
