Cuanza-Norte will Focus on Improving Services in New Municipalities

Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of Cuanza-Norte, João Diogo Gaspar, highlighted on Monday the construction of infrastructures to improve services as a priority for the development of new municipalities, within the framework of the country’s new Political and Administrative Division.

The governor, who was speaking at a meeting with the interim administrators of the localities elevated to the status of municipality, also indicated the improvement of the working conditions of the administrative staff and of the access roads as priorities.

With the new Political and Administrative Division of the country, the number of municipalities in the province of Cuanza-Norte was increased from 10 to 17.

The communes of Aldeia Nova and Caculo Cabaça (previously belonging to the municipality of Banga), Cerca (Golungo Alto), Massangano (Cambambe), Tango and Luinga (Ambaca) and Terreiro (Bolongongo) were elevated to the category of municipality.

For the governor, the emergence of new municipalities is a strategy of the executive aimed at improving the supply and bringing services closer to the population. On the other hand, he indicated that the appointment of new municipal administrators depends on a criterion of evaluation of the profile, suitability and competence of the candidates.

For João Diogo Gaspar, there is no legal imperative to appoint the former managers of the communes elevated to the status of municipality to the position of municipal administrators.

He called on the interim managers of the new municipalities to adopt the stance of exemplary and patriotic public servants, being prepared for the changes that may occur at the local administration level.

In turn, the interim leaders of the newly created municipalities pointed out the proximity of basic services to the population, the increase in infrastructure and local revenues, as well as the promotion of job opportunities for young people as the main gains of the new Political and Administrative Division.

On the other hand, they pointed out the construction of new infrastructures to accommodate managers and the operation of administrative services, the reinforcement of the water and electricity supply, the implementation of telecommunications services and the improvement of access roads as urgent needs of the new municipalities.
