Africa-Press – Angola. Judge Maria Guiomar Craveiro was appointed, this Wednesday, by the Plenary of the Superior Council of the Judiciary, to preside over the Jury of the Curricular Competition for the Filling of the Vacancy of President of the National Electoral Commission (CNE).
In an ordinary session, the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSMJ) also appointed the judge António José Santana as vice-president, and also the council member, Fernando de Almeida Gomes.
Under Article 8 of the Competition Regulations, the jury will have a technical support group, composed of four employees of the secretariat of the Superior Council of the Judiciary. The term of office of the President of the National Electoral Commission (CNE) is five years, renewable.
Regulation
The regulations of the Curricular Competition for Filling the Vacancy for President of the National Electoral Commission (CNE) were published on the official website of the Superior Council of the Judiciary, available at www.csmj.ao and in this Thursday’s (06/02) edition of Jornal de Angola.
The publication is the result of a decision taken at the Ordinary Session of the CSMJ Plenary, held on Wednesday, which saw the opening of the curricular competition to fill a vacancy for president of the CNE, a position held by Manuel Pereira da Silva since 2020.
According to the document, candidates must submit their applications five days after the publication of the regulations.
Article 5 of the Regulation indicates that judicial magistrates from any body, with recognized technical merit and moral suitability, must be at least 35 years old, be in full enjoyment of civil and political rights, and not have been convicted of a willful crime, punishable by a prison sentence, are eligible for the competition.
CSMJ spokesperson Correia Bartolomeu told the press that the competition should be concluded within a period of no more than 35 days.
