Africa-Press – Angola. The Commission for Reconciliation in Memory of the Victims of Political Conflicts (CIVICOP) has announced that the remains of Generals Altino Sapalo “Bock”, Antero Vieira and Ndala Constantino “Assobio da Bala” will be handed over on Friday.

The information was disclosed on Thursday by the coordinator of the commission, Marcy Lopes, during the first meeting of CIVICOP this year.

According to Marcy Lopes, after the work of the forensic team, it was concluded that the bones correspond to the bodies of three general officers, victims of political conflicts, found in the dense forests of Tchandji, in the province of Bié.

The CIVICOP coordinator said the commission will continue to work to find as many burial sites as possible and to identify the places and possible persons buried.

The monument

Regarding the monument in memory of the victims of the armed conflict, Marcy Lopes said that efforts are underway to build it, depending on the availability of funds.

Cornélio Calei, member of CIVICOP, said that the commission has been raising awareness among members of Angolan communities with relatives who died as a result of the political conflicts between 1975 and 2002, that they should contact the organization for the appropriate procedures.

Cornélio Calai said that UNITA’s place in CIVICOP “remains open” and called on the party’s members and president to take their seats and work together to achieve reconciliation.

“So the meeting is open, the communications are always sent to UNITA. I suggest that they take their role to join this project for the sake of national reconciliation,” Calai said.

CIVICOP was created in 2019 by order of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, with the aim of drawing up a general plan to pay tribute to the victims of the political conflicts that took place in Angola between November 11, 1975 (Independence Day) and April 4, 2002 (end of the armed conflict).

The Plan of Reconciliation in Memory of the Victims of the Political Conflicts includes, among other things, the issuance of death certificates and the construction of a single memorial for all the victims of the conflicts registered in the country.
