Africa-Press – Angola. Priority matters on the politico-diplomatic agenda of the Angola/Russia relationship dominated the audience that the Angolan Foreign minister, Téte António, granted on Thursday, in Luanda, to the ambassador of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Tararov.

According to a press note, this was the second meeting between the two personalities in less than two weeks, which reflects the solid commitment of both nations to deepening the bilateral relations.

During the conversation, the two diplomats analysed the plan to re-start a new edition of the “Conference of Foreign Affairs Ministers Africa/Russia”, with a hosting African city yet to be designated.

The other point on the agenda was the “Preparation of the next Angola/Russia Joint Intergovernmental Commission”, which would tackle topics in the areas of energy, defence, trade, higher education and technological innovation.

The exchange of top level visits also deserved special mention during the audience, considering that Angola and Russia have been trying to step up politico-diplomatic contacts and promote initiatives intended to strengthen bilateral relations.

The politico-diplomatic relations between Angola and Russia (then Soviet Union) date back to October 1976 when it was signed, in Moscow, the “Friendship and Co-operation Treaty”. Since that time the bilateral ties have evolved and gotten stronger, based in a partnership that covers a wide range of areas.
