Kaporal Close to Equalling Gelson and Flávio'S Record

Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan forward João Chingado Manha, or simply Kaporal, who plays for Wiliete Sport Clube de Benguela, is close to equalling the goalscoring records of Gelson Dala and Flávio Amado, as the Girabola’s top scorers. The international player for the Palancas Negras scored his 21st goal on Sunday and is now one of the top scorers in the National First Division Football Championship. The two goals scored in the match against Santa Rita de Cássia, in round 24 of the competition, brought the 30-year-old striker even closer to the numbers scored by Dala and Flávio, the latter having retired from the pitch.

Gelson Dala, in the 2016 season for 1.° de Agosto, finished the competition as the most accurate player in the opposition’s goal, having scored 23 goals in the season in question. Former top scorer Flávio Amado, in 2001, with the Petroleos emblem, won the “golden boot” by achieving the same record.

With six rounds to go until the end of this edition of the Girabola, Kaporal has a clear chance of equalling and perhaps surpassing the 23 goals scored by Flávio and Dala. The Wiliete striker surpassed the 20-goal record of Albert Meyong, formerly of Kabuscorp, in 2013, and Santana Carlos, for Petro de Luanda, in the 2008 season.

However, the “crown” of the top scorer in the history of the Girabola still belongs to Carlos Alves, former star of 1.° de Agosto, when in 1980 he scored 29 goals, a record that remains unbroken. Since then, only three players have come close to equaling this figure: Amaral Aleixo, Flávio Amado and Gelson Dala, with 23 goals.
