Manico is not the Problem, but the Angolan Electoral System - Jurist

Africa-Press – Angola. Without being a lawyer in someone else’s case, jurist Lindo Bernardo Tito understands that Manuel Pereira da Silva (Manico) is not the main dilemma of fraud, but rather the Angolan electoral system, which needs to be completely reformed.

Remember that, after Caetano de Sousa, in the distant year of 1992, the CNE had other presidents, but the cancer of non-free, fair and transparent elections persists.

The university professor, who does not disagree with UNITA’s strategy of calling for demonstrations, points out that, since the first elections in 1992 until those in 2022, the dilemma has been the lack of transparency and the lack of the principle of equality for all competing parties.

“Under the Constitution, political parties, civil society organizations, and citizens, whether organized or not, can hold demonstrations to complain and protest about any situation that they consider disturbing in general,” he notes.

To this end, it is in favor of creating a national pact on general elections in the country, in order to ensure free, fair and transparent elections, in light of the SADC principles.

“If this pact that should provide for punishments for its offenders does not exist, demonstrations may occur,” he describes.

“We need to address the underlying problem, the electoral system that brought us here,” he said.

In order to combat this system, Lindo Bernardo Tito defends the need for all those in Angola who are in favor of measures to reverse the current situation to come together, without hostility from anyone, nor a superiority complex between some and others.
