Africa-Press – Angola. Thirty-three former soldiers from the municipality of Mavinga, in the province of Cuando, received cattle and agricultural equipment on Wednesday to promote the production of cereals, tubers and vegetables. In addition to the 13 cattle, the former soldiers also received animal-drawn ploughs, hoes, machetes, axes and various seeds, acquired by the local government, as part of the Integrated Local Development and Poverty Alleviation Program (PIDLCP).
The second phase includes the delivery of 20 cattle, animal-drawn ploughs, machetes, hoes, axes and agricultural seeds.
The deputy governor for the Political, Economic and Social sector, André Zinga, said that the start of the second phase will depend on the acquisitions that will be made with the funds from the PIDLCP.He announced that in the municipality of Mavinga, 375 ex-military personnel are registered as vulnerable and are integrated into 15 associations, which will later be reorganized as part of the implementation of the PIDLCP.
According to the governor, the 375 ex-military personnel will receive differentiated support, some through the delivery of agricultural production resources and others with targeted technical support from the Provincial Office of Agriculture and Fisheries, which has already built 58 community farms in different locations to strengthen the ex-military personnel’s cooperatives. The Government of Cuando is drawing up a program to reorganize all agricultural cooperatives so that they can work together to increase agricultural production. The program also includes crop diversification using more technical procedures, through detailed monitoring by agricultural technicians. The project also includes the vaccination and registration process of cattle, upon delivery to beneficiaries.
Former military man António Joaquim Catimba, who received a head of cattle, a plough and other agricultural inputs, explained that he will work hard to increase production with the goods he received. He said that with rudimentary means he produced more than 11 tons of various products, on an area of eight hectares.
Farmer Jacob Epalanga said that the resources he received represent the commitment that the Central Government has towards the former military men who fought for the country.
