Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, visited the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial in New Delhi this Saturday, on the sidelines of his state visit to the Republic of India. At the Memorial in honour of the former spiritual leader, the Angolan Head of State, accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, was presented with a bust of Mahatma Gandhi and two books on the history of one of the greatest political leaders of the 20th century.
Honoured in India as the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi was a pioneer and practised the principle of Satyagraha, the well-known resistance to tyranny through non-violent mass civil disobedience.
The visit to the Memorial of the historical figure of India took place moments after the Angolan statesman was received at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Palace by the President of India, Draupadi Murmu.
