Africa-Press – Angola. The members of the UNITA Parliamentary Group have announced that a vigil will be held in front of Rádio Nacional de Angola tomorrow, 8 May, in Luanda, with the aim of reflecting on the situation of freedom of the press and expression in Angola. The information was provided yesterday in Luanda by MP Navita Ngolo, at a press conference that aimed to present the party’s work programme for 8 May, the date on which UNITA MP’s Day is celebrated, in memory of the late MP Raúl Danda, who passed away in 2021.
According to MP Navita Ngolo, the vigil, scheduled to take place in front of the premises of Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA), will start at 7:00 pm and run until midnight. Regarding the reasons that led to the choice of RNA, the parliamentarian recalled that, in life, Raúl Danda worked for several years at this location as a broadcaster. This activity, in his opinion, will be replicated by deputies from provincial circles, throughout the country, within the framework of the Constitution and the Law.The legislator said that “the vigil is a peaceful and non-violent demonstration, the purpose of which is to reflect and encourage reflection on the situation of freedom of the press and expression in Angola”.
In the same vein, in addition to the vigil on May 8, Saturday, May 10, will also be reserved for contact with citizens from communities located in Luanda, Bengo and Icolo e Bengo, with whom they will exchange information and share information on the importance and need to approve laws for a transparent electoral process.
According to the deputy, the activity in the communities will target taxi ranks, markets and other areas. Likewise, deputies from the other provincial constituencies will contact citizens in their areas.
To materialize these activities, according to the deputy, the UNITA Parliamentary Group sent an official communication to the Provincial Government of Luanda, the presidency of the National Assembly, the Ministry of Territorial Administration, the Interior, the general commander of the National Police and the governors of the other provinces.
Regarding the day of the deputy, in memory of Raul Manuel Danda, former deputy of UNITA, the legislator emphasizes that he was a distinguished deputy whose performance, in interventions in debates in the National Assembly, both in the media and in other forums, stood out, inspired and influenced the way of being and acting of the deputies.
With his death, on May 8, 2021, in her opinion, the UNITA Parliamentary Group lost one of its best members, the Angolan Parliament lost one of its most valuable deputies and Angola lost one of its best representatives of the people.
“Due to his qualities, the UNITA parliamentary group, in recognition of his dedication and pride in serving Parliament and the people, consecrated him as its patron and has been celebrating this date since 2022, to remember and honor his name, his achievements and immortalize his work, with activities of contact with the citizen and interaction between society and the deputies”, she reinforced.
