Angola Intends to Strengthen Diplomatic and Economic Relations with Mexico

Africa-Press – Angola. Angola has expressed its interest in strengthening diplomatic and economic cooperation with the United Mexican States (Federal Republic of Mexico). The content is contained in a letter that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, sent to his Mexican counterpart.

According to a note sent, the document was delivered last weekend by the Angolan ambassador to the United States of America and non-resident in Mexico, Agostinho Van-Dúnem, during his visit to the Mexican city.

During the visit, Agostinho Van-Dúnem addressed the Foreign Relations Committee-Africa of the Senate of the United Mexican States, where he reaffirmed Angola’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and highlighted opportunities for strategic cooperation.

The diplomat was received by the president of the aforementioned commission, Alma Austria, accompanied by senators Yiedckol Polevnsky Gurwttz and Mariela Gutirrez, with whom he discussed the historic friendship between the two countries, which dates back to Mexican support in the fight for Angola’s independence.The importance of strengthening parliamentary cooperation between the Mexican Senate and the National Assembly of Angola was also discussed, with emphasis on the possibility of promoting reciprocal visits between parliamentarians from both countries.

The initiative serves to foster legislative exchange, political dialogue and the alignment of common agendas in multilateral forums.

Agostinho Van-Dúnem also met with representatives of the Mexican business sector, including the vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CANACINTRA) and the Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade, Investment and Technology, A.C. (COMCE).

The ambassador also met with Mexican migration authorities, including the General Director of Migration and Migration Archives, Alma Rubí Morales, to discuss issues related to the legalization and integration of the Angolan community in the country.

Angola has approximately 1,551 citizens residing in Mexico. The meeting resulted in an agreement to improve the exchange of information and facilitate the integration of the Angolan diaspora, without prejudice to their migration status.
