Africa-Press – Angola. With eight countries participating, Angola will host the Davis Cup Africa phase IV senior men’s tournament for the second time, to be held from the 11th to the 14th of next month at the Kikuxi Villas Club Academy in Luanda. The event, to be held in the team category, is part of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) calendar and is part of the celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of National Independence.

The secretary general of the Angolan Tennis Federation (FAT), Urbano Cata, stated that the conditions are in place for the country to host the event.

Urbano highlighted the relationship of trust between the ITF and the FAT, strengthened after the organisation of several international events. According to the director, the tennis players from the seven participating teams will begin to travel to the country on 9th June.

Daniel Domingos, Emerson Pedro and Fernando André are the tennis players called up to represent the Angolan team in the continental competition. Angola, Burundi, Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon, Ghana, Mauritius, Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo are the participating countries. The eight countries are in the fourth division and the competition serves as access to the third. The teams will be divided into two groups, made up of four teams each. In the series, the first and second placed teams will be promoted, the third guaranteed to remain and the last placed team will be relegated.Angola held the competition last year, where they ensured their maintenance in the fourth division, by beating Rwanda by 2 sets to 1, in the duel for access to fifth place in the Davis Cup Africa, played at the Kikuxi Villas Club Academy, in Luanda.
