Africa-Press – Angola. The technical director of the National Institute of Artisanal Fishing and Aquaculture, Fredy Canda, assured, in the municipality of Soyo, that the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources has created the conditions to support artisanal fishermen in the Northern Region, which includes the provinces of Zaire, Uíge and Cabinda. For artisanal fishermen to benefit from the aforementioned support, Fredy Canda said, they must be associated with cooperatives.
On the other hand, the technical director of the National Institute of Artisanal Fishing and Aquaculture, who held a meeting with artisanal fishermen from the municipality of Soyo last Thursday, asked shipowners to respect navigation rules and limits on fishing activity.Fredy Canda pointed out that artisanal fishing activities must be carried out within the rules that establish that they must be carried out within a perimeter of four nautical miles. The official also asked artisanal fishermen and owners of barges and small fishing vessels to update their statistical data with the management of their cooperatives, as well as the means used in fishing activities with lines and nets.
Olga Santa Vumba, who was present at the meeting, told that they had received valuable explanations on how to carry out fishing activities, but she regretted the fact that the licensing of vessels by the municipal administration was slow and expensive. She suggested that the Ministry review the situation. “The price of 195 thousand kwanzas for a fishing activity license is excessive and discourages young people who want to undertake this business,” she lamented.
