VTB Africa Bank Closes Activities in Angola

Africa-Press – Angola. VTB Africa bank has closed its activities in Angola, by voluntary decision of shareholders, the governor of the National Bank of Angola (BNA), Manuel Tiago Dias, announced on Wednesday in Luanda.

According to the governor of the BNA, who was speaking at a press conference at the end of the 123rd Meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), VTB Africa was extinguished from the Angolan financial system by a decision taken by the bank’s own shareholders.

VTB operated with 7.5 billion kwanzas, a figure below the minimum established for a commercial bank, which is 15 billion.

Present in more than 20 countries, VTB-Africa began its activity in Angola in 2006 and its main shareholder is VTB Moscow, the second largest Russian banking group.

The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) is responsible for formulating Angolan monetary and exchange rate policy.

The next meeting of the CPM will take place on 17 and 18 July in the city of Soyo, Zaire province.
