Africa-Press – Angola. The French ambassador to Angola, Sophie Aubert, announced on Friday in Luanda that 248 scholarship holders out of 984 Angolan students are continuing their studies at various French universities. The figures were presented by the French diplomat in her speech at the event called “France Alumni Day”, which takes place annually around the world to honour students who graduated in France, their professional careers and their contribution to the development of their respective countries. To highlight the importance of this activity, Sophie Aubert announced that her country welcomed 430,000 foreign students in 2024, representing 14 percent of the student population at French universities.She also said that the celebration aims to recognize the trajectory of former students who developed impactful projects in the social, technological, environmental and cultural areas in their countries.
In her speech, the ambassador emphasized the importance of welcoming foreign students to her country because it allows them to learn about other cultures, offering several advantages, such as getting to know each other better and promoting a culture of peaceful coexistence.
She also thanked the partners, stating that there are several co-financed scholarship programs such as Quai d’Orsay Empresa, Academia Sonangol and MIREMPET, as well as scholarships from the French government that allow Angolan students to enroll annually in several French higher education institutions.In turn, Toinelo Ribeiro Monteiro, a former Angolan scholarship holder in France, presented his rich academic career and the benefits of this training, which currently allows him to give his best in the development of Angola in the area of chemical engineering and new energies.
Likewise, Sofia Mateus highlighted the benefits of the French government scholarship to complete her doctorate in Archaeology at a French institution and spoke briefly about her participation in the “DIG-ARQ” project.
DIG-ARQ is designed within the scope of a Franco-Angolan partnership and aims to map and disseminate the national archaeological heritage through the publication of scientific articles.
