Government Warns of Need for US$8.6 Billion Annually

Africa-Press – Angola. Angola needs to mobilize around US$8.6 billion per year until 2030 to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and fulfill the commitments of the African Union (AU) Agenda 2063, revealed the Secretary of State for Investment, Ivan Santos, in the capital Luanda.

According to Jornal de Angola, Santos, who spoke at the launch of the Report on the Economic Outlook for Africa, under the theme “Making Angola’s Natural Capital Work Better for its Development”, stressed that this financing deficit requires innovation in capital mobilization and greater efficiency and transparency in the management of public resources.

The minister also said that the country has vast natural resources and human capital, whose economic and strategic value is still far from being fully explored in an inclusive and sustainable way.

Santos also assured that the Angolan Executive has been promoting structural reforms, focused on economic diversification, improving human capital and modernizing State institutions, recognizing that “economic growth, although positive, with a rate of 4.4% in 2024, the highest in the last five years, is not enough to guarantee the full use of the country’s productive potential.”

Angola, he stressed, “is investing significantly in education, technical and professional training, as well as in promoting gender equality, considering it essential to prepare young people for the challenges of the future.”

However, he admitted that obstacles persist, namely constraints on the mobilization of internal revenues, the effectiveness of public spending and the sustainable management of natural resources.
