Africa-Press – Angola. The National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANPG) awarded 205 scholarships for undergraduate and master degrees inside and outside the country, under the “Okutanga” project.

The award ceremony took place on Monday in Luanda under the guidance of the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, in the presence of the chairman of the board of directors (PCA) of the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANPG), Paulino Jerónimo.

According to the chairman, the exchanges will be financed with social funds from oil concession contracts with risk, especially blocks 30, 44, 45, led by Exxon, and 49, 50, under the control of Chevron.

The Chairperson stated that academic training is one of the pillars of the ANPG”s social responsibility policy, within its regulatory and concessionaire role.

Therefore, the manager said that this program reaffirms the commitment of the oil sector to the social development of the country.

Paulino Jerónimo highlighted the evident pride in the selected young people, who went through a rigorous, transparent and inclusive process.

“Students were selected for this cycle of scholarships, with contracts signed during the event, guaranteeing full funding for their studies”, underlined the chairperson, who expressed great satisfaction with this initiative.

He reminded the scholarship holders that the continuity and success of the program depend on dedication, discipline and commitment to the values of citizenship.

He reinforced that the ANPG will remain committed, together with its partners, to expand this initiative, transforming the country natural resources into real opportunities for the well-being of the population.

The ANPG was created in 2019, through Presidential Decree No. 49/19, of 6 February, as a result of the reorganization program of the oil sector in Angola. Among the actions taken for the restructuring of the sector, the transfer of the Concessionaire function, previously held by Sonangol E.P., to the newly created Agency was approved, in order to ensure greater political coordination, increase the effectiveness of processes and create conditions for private investment activities in the national oil industry.

The ANPG became the National Concessionaire with the specific attributions of regulating, supervising and promoting the execution of petroleum activities in the field of operations and contracting in the oil, gas and biofuels sector. Through Presidential Decree No. 52/19, of 18 February, the General Strategy for the Allocation of Oil Concessions for the period 2019-2025 was approved.
