Africa-Press – Angola. Angola officially submitted Maria de Fatima Jardim’s candidacy on Thursday in Guinea-Bissau for executive secretary of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) for 2025–2027 term.
According to a press release sent, Angola’s candidacy was presented by Foreign Minister Téte António during the 30th Ordinary Meeting of the CPLP Council of Ministers, which began this morning in the capital of Guinea-Bissau.
The head of Angolan diplomacy told the ministers of the nine Member States that Fátima Jardim’s candidacy represents the continuity of a leadership committed to the founding values of the CPLP: political and diplomatic coordination, multisectoral cooperation, and the promotion of the Portuguese language as a common heritage.
According to Minister Téte António, Angola’s candidacy respects the principle of alphabetical rotation and reflects the country’s commitment to a more cohesive, effective, and citizen-friendly CPLP.
Ambassador Fátima Jardim has held positions in the Angolan government, notably as Minister of Fisheries and the Environment, and represented the country in the Paris Agreement negotiations during COP21.
She was also vice-president of the FAO Council, representing Africa, and more recently, Angola’s ambassador to Italy.
Fátima Jardim was awarded the Lusofonia Prize, a distinction that recognizes individuals who stand out in the promotion of the Portuguese language, common culture, and cooperation among the peoples of the CPLP.
This international recognition reinforces her legitimacy and symbolizes her commitment to the values that unite the CPLP countries.
