Africa-Press – Angola. The related authorities have begun the process of identifying the 23 fatal victims of the Serra da Leba road accident and contacting their families, to define the model of the funeral.
The information was provided on Thursday in Lubango by the deputy provincial governor of Namibe for the Political, Social and Economic sector, Abel Kapitango, after visiting the 12 injured people admitted to the Huíla General Hospital, to whom he brought words of comfort.
According to the official, once the rescue work is finished, the phase of identification of the victims and contact with family members to define the model of the funeral follows.
Abel Kapitango took the opportunity to appeal to motorists to drive prudently and responsibly, to reduce accidents on that section.
On the other hand, the provincial commander of the Civil Protection and Fire Service of Huíla, José Pedro Catraio, said that the bus was carrying 46 citizens, and on Thursday more victims were rescued, bringing the number to 23 dead.
He said that the passengers were thrown off the bus, which is why the teams found some difficulty in rescuing them during the night of Wednesday.
“The National Police, Firefighters, SIC, INEMA and the population that helped in the rescue are on the ground. We are using a rappelling system, we use generators and searchlights for the rescue at night”, he said.
