Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, met on Wednesday in Yokohama with the Prime Minister of Japan, Shigeru Ishida, as part of the ninth edition of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9).
The meeting is part of the intense diplomatic agenda that the Angolan Head of State is carrying out in Japan, which include contacts with entities from politics, science, education, and other fields relevant to strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
Angola and Japan signed several memoranda of understanding today covering sectors such as water supply, healthcare, and the construction of cultural infrastructure, signaling the beginning of a new cycle of cooperation between the two countries.
In addition to bilateral coordination, João Lourenço and Ishida Shigeru jointly chair TICAD9, a forum that aims to deepen strategic partnerships between Africa and Japan, in favor of peace, stability and sustainable development.
Meeting with the Prime Minister of RDC
Still in Yokohama, President João Lourenço maintained a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Judith Suumwa Tuluka.
The meeting was framed in regular contacts about the security situation in the Congolese territory, often reported to the Angolan statesman by different entities of the neighboring country, and which continues to deserve attention and monitoring at the highest level.
Meeting with UNICEF Executive Director
Still on the sidelines of TICAD9, João Lourenço received the Executive Director of UNICEF, Catherine Russell, with whom he assessed the ongoing partnerships and envisaged new joint initiatives in favor of Angolan children, especially in the area of child protection and well-being.
Reception in honor of invited delegations
The first day of the Tokyo International Conference on Africa’s Development concluded an official reception hosted by Japanese Prime Minister Ishida Shigeru for the participating delegations.
President João Lourenço attended the formal dinner, accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço.
