Africa-Press – Angola. The signing of various agreements and memoranda of understanding, particularly water supply projects, dominated the bilateral agenda this Wednesday on the first day of the Angolan Head of State’s visit to Yokohama, Japan.
João Lourenço has been in Yokohama since Monday as part of the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), where he is participating as President of the African Union (AU).
On the sidelines of this meeting, which is taking place at the Pacifico Yokohama Convention Center, João Lourenço witnessed the signing of eight agreements and memoranda of understanding between Angola and Japanese companies, mostly for energy, water, and transportation projects.The implementation of two water supply projects for the provinces of Uíge and Zaire, specifically the municipality of Soyo, is among the agreements reached by the Angolan delegation accompanying the President of the Republic in Yokohama.
The agreements for the implementation of the two projects were signed by the Angolan Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, and the Vice President of Toyota Tsusho Corporation, Ichiro Kashitani.
Namibe was awarded a seawater desalination project in the province, an agreement for which was also signed by Minister João Baptista Borges and the Vice President of Toyota Tsusho Corporation.
Also among the agreements reached, on the sidelines of the TICAD9 work in Yokohama, are actions on the Amboim Deepwater Port Development Project (Cuanza-Sul) and the creation of the CFAO Academy in Angola.
The agreements on the Maternal and Child Health Booklet Project and another on the Namibe Cinema Study complete the list of contracts signed.
A memorandum of understanding was also signed between the Angolan Ministry of Finance and the Bank for International Cooperation of Japan (BCIJ), signed by Minister Vera Daves de Sousa and the governor of the Japanese bank, Nobumitsu Hayashi.
Before signing the agreements, President João Lourenço met with some of the individuals involved in the projects, including a delegation from Toyota led by its vice president and CFAO officials Shinichiro Otsuka and Nuno Borges.
