Africa-Press – Angola. The Angola vs. Cape Verde match, at 7 p.m. this Thursday at the Kilamba pavilion in Luanda, for the quarterfinals of Afrobasket 2025, has fans buzzing, many of them believing in a victory for the reigning African champions.
In a round conducted on Wednesday, across several municipalities in Luanda province, the prediction of victory prevailed due to the contenders’ track records: Angola has 11 titles, and Cape Verde only finished third in 2007.
Added to this is the fact that Angola is playing at home, with the positive potential of winning in this condition, as occurred in 1989, 1999, and 2007.António de Rosário, a 22-year-old IT technician, thinks it will be a difficult match, but believes the national team has everything it needs to emerge victorious.
He said he respects the opponent, as do all others in this competition, but Angola has more confidence to qualify for the semi-finals and, in the final, win its 12th African trophy.
The interviewee said he will watch the match at the Kilamba Multipurpose Hall, dressed in the colors of the national flag—red, yellow, and black—as a symbol of support.
Daniel Kiala, a 24-year-old beauty professional, highlighted the national team’s victorious run in the group stage, arguing that this performance bolsters their confidence for the match against Cape Verde.
“Angola holds the hegemony in African basketball, despite Cape Verde’s surprise victory in the 2021 Afrobasket tournament in Kigali, Rwanda, by 77-71,” he maintained, believing the victory will be achieved by impressive numbers.
Adolfo, 37, a resident of the Golf 1 neighborhood, highlighted the Angolan team’s greater “dynamism and professionalism” as decisive assets in securing qualification for the semifinals.”We’re stronger and more prepared to win than Cape Verde. Unfortunately, because I’m on duty, I won’t be watching the game in the stadium,” he lamented.
