More than 300 Diamond Stones Seized in Lunda Norte

Africa-Press – Angola. Three hundred and sixty-one diamonds of various carats were seized Thursday by the Criminal Investigation Service in Lunda Norte for illegal possession and trafficking, as part of a micro-operation aimed at combating the mining of this strategic mineral.

According to Domingos Muanafumo, spokesperson for the National Police Provincial Command, authorities also seized equipment used for the illegal mining and sale of diamonds, without disclosing the number of citizens involved in the crime.He reported that during the operation, 39,940 liters of fuel were also seized, including 37,225 liters of diesel and 2,715 liters of gasoline, for smuggling, bound for the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The seizures also included 118 kilograms of marijuana.

He said the seizures took place in the municipalities of Lucapa, Lóvua, Mussungue, Chitato, and Cambulo.

As part of the fight against immigration, he said, the 6th and 7th Border Guard Police units detained 742 DRC citizens, including 80 children, for illegally entering and remaining in the country.

He added that after administrative and immigration procedures, the citizens were repatriated to their country of origin through border crossings in the municipalities of Loremo, Cuilo, Caungula, Camaxilo, Lóvua, Chitato, Dundo, and Canzar.

Lunda-Norte shares a long land and river border with the provinces of Lualaba, Kassai, and Central Kassai (DRC), stretching approximately 770 kilometers.
