Africa-Press – Angola. Former Angolan Minister of Justice Paulo Tjipilica died on Monday at a private clinic in Luanda, at the age of 86, from an illness.

Paulo Tjipilica served as Minister of Justice for 12 years in the government of José Eduardo dos Santos and was Angola’s first Ombudsman, a position he held for 13 years.

Reacting to his death, Deputy Ombudsman Aguinaldo Cristóvão lamented the passing of this figure, given the great legacy he left to Angolan society.

He also praised Paulo Tjipilica’s work in defending the rights of the most disadvantaged, with a focus on land issues, as well as his role as the country’s first Ombudsman.

Born on December 21, 1939, he was a lawyer by profession, graduating from the Faculty of Law of the Universidade Clássica Lisboa in 1976.

Before becoming a minister, he was a legal advisor to the Council of Ministers of Portugal from 1976 to 1992, and a lawyer registered with the Lisbon Bar Association from 1978 to 1992.
