Africa-Press – Angola. Angola is since Tuesday (16th) participating in the 55th Session of the Steering Committee of the Parliamentary Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO), which runs until September 18th in Geneva, Switzerland.

According to a press release from the National Assembly (AN) on Wednesday, the international forum, jointly organized by the European Parliament (EP) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), promotes dialogue between the parliaments of member states on key issues related to world trade and sustainable development.

At the meeting Angola is represented by MP Maria Idalina Valente.

The event also aims to strengthen democracy internationally by introducing a parliamentary dimension to multilateral trade cooperation. Its program includes a parliamentary session to be held on Thursday under the theme “Promoting Multilateralism through Digital Trade: What is the Role of Parliaments?”

The Parliamentary Conference for the World Trade Organization (PCWTO) was created 16 years ago and brings together representatives from all regions of the world, which is both an advantage and a challenge.

On the other hand, the WTO works to consolidate a rules-based international trading system.

Despite the difficulties faced in trade negotiations, alternatives are being explored to modernize organizational standards and respond to new global challenges.
