MPLA Calls for March in Luanda to Support Party Leader

Africa-Press – Angola. The MPLA has called for a march to demonstrate “unity, loyalty and confidence in the leadership of the party and President João Lourenço” for Saturday, September 20, in Cacuaco, Luanda.

The party that has governed the country since independence expects thousands of militants, friends and supporters of the MPLA, OMA and JMPLA on the main streets of the municipality of Cacuaco.

In recent weekends, the country’s capital has been the scene of strong political events, with the MPLA, UNITA and PRA-JA Servir Angola dominating rallies with the aim of winning votes.

According to Novo Jornal, the MPLA leadership, at the central level, is “very concerned” about the election results in the capital, where, in 2022, UNITA managed to elect three deputies, against the ruling party’s two.

Therefore, this Saturday, the 20th, the MPLA in Luanda mobilized all intermediate structures and social organizations to carry out this march, “in order to reaffirm confidence in the leader and the party’s leadership.”

It should be noted that, recently, during a meeting in the municipality of Rangel, the party secretary in Luanda, Luís Nunes, stated that he was aware of the multiple difficulties faced by local structures, stressing the importance of “keeping the flame alive and strengthening internal cohesion.”

Among the MPLA’s many challenges in Luanda, the 1st provincial secretary, Luís Nunes, highlighted the political recovery of the capital, where the party obtained unfavorable results in the last elections.

“Only together will we be able to overcome this,” he said.

“I didn’t come here to talk much, I came to listen to the grassroots, because these are the structures that sustain our party. If these structures don’t work, nothing else will,” the leader declared.

Luís Nunes believes that, with collective work and reorganization of the bases, it will be possible to achieve victory in the capital in the 2027 elections.
