Foreign Minister Highlights Strategic Role of Diplomacy

Africa-Press – Angola. Foreign Affairs Minister Téte António highlighted on Tuesday in Luanda, the strategic role of diplomacy in consolidating national sovereignty, pacifying Africa, and addressing contemporary foreign policy challenges.

In his closing remarks at the conference commemorating the 50th anniversary of Angolan independence and diplomacy, the minister stated, “Diplomacy was, and continues to be, the first line of defense of national sovereignty.”

The minister said the conference served as an exercise in memory and assessment of the path taken by Angolan diplomacy, from the struggle for self-determination to the current international order.

Modernization and Enhancement of the Diplomatic Career

Recognizing the internal challenges facing his institution, the minister reiterated his commitment to valuing diplomats and civil servants by modernizing services, providing ongoing training, promoting digitalization, and reviewing the remuneration statute.

“Modern diplomacy requires qualified, motivated, and recognized professionals,” he said.

Economic, Climate, and Community Diplomacy

The minister also highlighted the role of Angolan diplomacy in mobilizing resources for sustainable development, fighting climate change, and protecting Angolan communities abroad.

“Angolan diplomacy must continue to focus on both the economy and climate issues, contributing to the mobilization of resources and the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement, the UN 2030 Agenda, and the African Union’s Agenda 2063,” he said.

He mentioned the need to find new forms of public and private financing for the country’s structural projects and sustainable human development.

Téte António reaffirmed the commitment to a foreign policy adapted to the demands of the modern world that is guided by the principles of sovereignty, cooperation, and multilateralism based on solidarity.
