Africa-Press – Angola. The Secretary of State for Administration, Finance, and Assets, — Osvaldo dos Santos Varela, is participating in the 19th Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), which is taking place in Kampala, Uganda.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, the Angolan diplomat stressed the importance of empowering young people and women. He emphasized the need to ensure their effective participation in decision-making processes at all levels, as well as to equip them with the necessary skills to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

Varela proposed creating an educational exchange and innovation program to share knowledge and experiences in digital technologies, including artificial intelligence training, to promote the employability of young people and women.

He reiterated Angola’s commitment to the principles and values of the NAM and the United Nations Charter and reaffirmed the country’s support for the Sahrawi people’s inalienable right to self-determination and independence.

The Secretary of State emphasized the necessity of renewing multilateral efforts to resolve ongoing conflicts in regions such as Sudan and the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, advocating for peaceful solutions grounded in international law.

He also stressed the importance of strengthening multilateral cooperation in a global context marked by geopolitical tensions, economic crises, climate change, hunger, poverty, and human rights violations.

In his speech, the diplomat reiterated that the Non-Aligned Movement remains an essential platform for promoting the interests and aspirations of the Global South. He reaffirmed Angola’s commitment to strengthening multilateral cooperation and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
