Angola Invests in Another Satellite

Africa-Press – Angola. Angola is stepping up investment in the telecommunications sector, notably with the launch of a new earth observation satellite and the expansion of the national fiber optic network, as part of the country’s modernization and digital inclusion strategy.

This was announced by the Angolan President , João Lourenço, at the opening of the Third Summit on Infrastructure in Africa, which is taking place in Luanda.

João Lourenço said that the Angolan government is committed to ensuring equitable access to digital technologies and to putting technological innovation at the service of national development.

“In telecommunications, we are investing in another satellite for Earth observation and expanding the national fiber optic network throughout the country, so that digital solutions and technological innovation are available to all Angolans,” said Lourenço.

Angola already has ANGOSAT-II, a communications satellite launched in October 2022, which provides coverage throughout the national territory and much of the African continent, improving access to the internet, broadcasting services, and data communication.

The Angolan government has been investing in structural projects in the field of information and communication technologies, considered strategic pillars of economic diversification and regional integration, in line with the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
