Africa-Press – Angola. One million, 313 thousand, and 720 anti-personnel mines have been destroyed in Angola in the last 10 years, revealed Isabel Massela, Deputy Director-General for the Technical Area of ​​the National Mine Action Agency (ANAM), on Friday in Saurimo (Lunda-Sul).

The official was speaking at the closing of a training course on mechanical demining, assurance, and quality control, highlighting that the process also allowed for the destruction of 68,364 anti-tank mines and 6,364,266 explosive devices.

She explained that the cleared areas have allowed the government to build roads, bridges, power lines, ports, airports, and expand land for cultivation.The actions carried out also enabled the construction of schools, hospitals, railway lines and dams, notably the Lobito Corridor, with the Benguela Railway, contributing to the economic growth and development of the country.

In turn, the provincial delegate of Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland, António Upite, reiterated that demining allowed farmers to cultivate more and create leisure spaces for children and build suitable infrastructure for the development of families.

He stated that the Government of the Province of Lunda-Sul reaffirms its commitment to continue supporting all initiatives aimed at strengthening human security, to guarantee local development and national reconstruction.

António Upite appealed to the technicians of the demining companies to put the acquired knowledge into practice and apply it to their daily work.

For 11 days, participants addressed topics related to land liberation, mechanical demining, quality management and control, mine accident victims, human resources and education, risk, and victim assistance.
