Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan President João Lourenço in Luanda recognized the efforts of African leaders throughout the 50 years of National Independence during the awarding of decorations to statesmen of the continent.

The awards took place within the framework of the 8th Awards Ceremony, which recognizes prominent figures in the classes of Honor, Independence, and Peace and Development.

For the Class of Honor, the current President of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso, and the former Moroccan monarch Hassan II “King Hassan II” were decorated.

The list included the former Heads of State Ahmed Ben Bella and Houari Boumedienne (Algeria), Ahmed Sékou Touré and Alpha Condé (Guinea), João Bernardo Vieira “Nino Vieira” (Guinea-Bissau), Jomo Kenyatta (Kenya), Kenneth David Kaunda (Zambia), Kwame Nkrumah (Ghana), Marien Ngouabi (Congo) and Murtala Ramat Mohammed (Nigeria).

Mwalimu Julius Nyerere (Tanzania), Nelson Mandela (South Africa), Olusegun Obasanjo (Nigeria), Omar Bongo Ondimba (Gabon), Pedro Pires (Cape Verde), Robert Gabriel Mugabe (Zimbabwe), Samora Moisés Machel (Mozambique), Samuel Daniel “Sam Nujoma” (Namibia) and Seretse Khama (Botswana) were also part of the list.
