Africa-Press – Angola. The municipality of Gambos, in Huíla province, has marked progress in its 50 years of independence, particularly in the social sector. From a single two-classroom school and a medical center in 1975, it now boasts 12 schools, two hospitals, and nine health posts.
These figures were presented by the municipal administrator of Gambos, Francisco Barros Leonardo, during his speech at the festivities commemorating November 11th, National Independence Day, highlighting the contribution of Angolans to the consolidation of peace and the development of the country.In the municipality of Gambos, the administrator highlighted that since 1975 the number of medical centers has tripled and the territory now has more than 10 doctors trained in the country.
In the education sector, the town of Chiange (municipal seat), which previously had only one school with two classrooms, now has 12 schools, several of them with more than 10 classrooms.
Regarding infrastructure, he noted the partial paving of the town and the improvement of road access between the EN205 bypass, which, according to the official, reflects the fruits of national independence.
The agricultural sector has also seen progress, with an increase of 963,000 head of cattle and the planting of more than 6,370 trees, efforts aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change in the southern region of the country.
He praised the national reconciliation policy led by President João Lourenço, emphasizing that Angola is today a country of faith, peace, and inclusion, and called for the continuation of joint work to transform Gambos into a municipality of education, health, and entrepreneurship, and not just one associated with hunger and drought.The celebrations marking 50 years of independence in Gambos included cultural events, sports activities, and tributes to citizens who contributed to the development of the municipality.
