Africa-Press – Angola. The candidate for UNITA’s top position, Rafael Savimbi, said Friday (14) in Saurimo City, eastern Lunda-Sul Province, that if he wins the party’s leadership, at this month’s congress, he will prioritize internal unity among members, deepening democracy, and recruiting more members.
The politician, who was speaking at a mass rally in Saurimo, said that he intends to deepen internal democracy, create dignified conditions for the party’s functioning, in view of the upcoming electoral challenges.
He also said that what motivated him to run for the party’s presidency is the desire to serve, to contribute at the highest level to the growth of UNITA, and to envision a new era of leadership.
Upon his arrival in the province, the politician was received by the acting governor of Lunda-Sul, Cláudio Pemessa.
Rafael Savimbi has already traveled through the provinces of Icolo e Bengo, Zaire, Uige, Malanje, Lunda-Norte and Lunda-Sul, seeking votes for his election.
For the XIV ordinary congress of UNITA, scheduled to take place from the 28th to the 30th of this month, Adalberto Costa Júnior (for his own succession) and Rafael Massanga Savimbi are running.
