Angola Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening Cooperation

Africa-Press – Angola. Angola reaffirmed this Tuesday, in Shanghai, its firm commitment to strengthening cooperation relations with the People’s Republic of China, based on friendship, dialogue and a strategic partnership of mutual trust.

The position was expressed by the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, during the opening ceremony of the 8th World Taihu Culture Conference.

In her speech, Esperança da Costa highlighted that the bonds of fraternity between the two peoples date back to the 1960s, a period during which China played a decisive role by providing military support to Angola’s struggle for independence.

She also recalled that political-diplomatic and cooperation relations were strengthened in 1983, the year in which both countries officially inaugurated their diplomatic representations and signed several legal instruments to expand cooperation in the economic, commercial and social fields.

The Vice-President thanked the Chinese Government for its significant contribution to the national reconstruction process, support that continues to be evident in the context of Angola’s new agenda focused on economic diversification and sustainable development.

According to Esperança da Costa, the conference represents the strength of the ancient tradition of the Chinese people, “a brotherly and friendly people, whose philosophy, art, and profound harmony between humankind and nature have inspired the world for centuries”. She described Chinese cultural heritage as “a beacon illuminating paths,” highlighting that the strength of civilizations lies in their ability to learn from each other and build bridges of understanding.

The Angolan leader stated that she is convinced that the 8th World Taihu Culture Conference will continue to promote cultural dialogue and friendship between peoples, strengthening the foundations for an increasingly promising future between Angola and China.

Esperança da Costa also called for concerted global action to protect and promote cultural diversity, stressing that, united, countries can overcome common challenges and build a stronger and more sustainable cultural future for the benefit of their respective peoples.
