Africa-Press – Angola. The Secretary of State for Sport, Paulo Madeira, appealed this Monday in Luanda to the National Karate Team to adopt exemplary behavior both inside and outside the World Championship, to be held from the 27th to the 30th of this month in Cairo (Egypt).

The official, speaking at the Sports Gallery on the occasion of the handover of the Republic’s flag to the delegation attending the event, said that wearing the national colors demands responsibility, discipline and fair play.

He stated that representing the country in the world competition begins with the journey, daily behavior and the way the athletes present themselves.Paulo Madeira highlighted that Angola is once again deserving attention on the international circuit of the sport, noting that the opponents have “already studied” the national karatekas, which increases the level of competition.

For the leader, sporting success depends as much on physical condition as on mental strength, an element he considers crucial in high-level competition.

He also appealed to the athletes to honor the national flag and also their colleagues who were not included in the squad, adding that everyone has confidence in the group’s performance. For his part, the president of the Angolan Karate Federation, Guiliano André, stated that the preparation for the world championship went according to schedule.

He said that in recent years the national team has had access to a greater number of competitions, a factor that has contributed to raising the competitive level.

He explained that Angola has already achieved regional and continental podium finishes and that in the Cairo World Championship the objective is to place the country among the top three, after its last participation in such an event in 2018.

The national team leaves (24) for Egypt, taking three athletes who qualified directly thanks to the third place obtained in the African Championship, held last August in Luanda.

In that African competition, Egypt was crowned champion, followed by Cameroon.

Called up: Nário Lopes (-75 kg), Leonardo Maiala (-84 kg) and Luiza François (-59 kg).
