Africa-Press – Angola. Angola’s eastern municipalities of Luau and Luacano, in Moxico Leste province, are now interconnected, for the first time, by road, after the completion of the asphalting of nearly 100 kilometers of National Road (EN) 250,on Thursday.
This highway (EN 250), which is part of the Lobito Corridor, connects the provinces of Moxico Leste (a province that emerged in 2024 under the New Administrative Division), Moxico, Bié, Huambo and Benguela.
It is considered to be of “extreme” importance, as it is one of the supporting infrastructures of the Lobito Corridor, which includes the Benguela Railway, as well as port and airports.
The Government’s goal is to connect the two municipalities to Cameia, also in the province of Moxico Leste, over a length of 176 kilometers, in a project valued at 183 thousand, 490 million and 210 thousand kwanzas, expected to end in 2026.
Reacting to the first 100 kilometers completed, the municipal administrator of Luacano, Paulo Atanasse, said it was “a dream come true” for the population of that district, who awaited this moment with expectations.
The manager confirmed that, at this time, the asphalt laying works, under the responsibility of the company AFAVIAS, are already in the municipal town of Luacano, which is allowing the population to circulate smoothly between the two municipalities.
He said that travel time has reduced from 6 hours to 45 minutes, describing that the satisfaction of the local population is “huge”.
To complete the sections in the eastern part of Angola, the Luena-Leua-Cameia road, 105 kilometers long, and then Luena/Munhango (Bié), around 156 kilometers, will need to be asphalted, the costs of which are estimated at a value of 176 million and 527 thousand euros, including construction of bridges and inspection.
