Trucks Bound for Cabinda Stranded on Kivola/Nóqui Road

Africa-Press – Angola. Since Wednesday, over 20 trucks bound for Cabinda province have been unable to continue their journey due to a car accident that blocked the road between the village of Kivola and the Nóqui municipal headquarters in Zaire Province.

The accident, which did not kill anyone, involved two heavy vehicles carrying various goods to Cabinda, passing through the border town of Nóqui (Zaire) and the territory of the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo.

According to a statement from the Nóqui Municipal Administration, the accident was caused by torrential rain that fell on this mountainous and unpaved stretch of road, causing disruption to truck drivers.

The National Road 120, which connects the municipalities of Mbanza Kongo and Nóqui, is extremely important as it is the only road that connects the provinces of Zaire and Cabinda by land, the latter being geographically discontinuous.

The section between Kivola and the municipal headquarters of Nóqui has never benefited from rehabilitation works for decades and is part of the 110 km Mbanza Kongo/Nóqui road, which has been undergoing paving works since October 2020.
